My practice investigates the contradiction associated with assimilation, gender, and American values. Incubated in a car-centric Houston suburb, my practice investigates how hypocrisy arose from being a queer, Vietnamese-American in an isolating, yet diverse community. This dissonance is a central theme in my art which I am currently exploring through print and installation.

Through these mediums, I address contradictions and the intersecting layers of my identity. My work becomes modular and transformable much like the status of Asian America. I place these contradictions into archetypes that represent both addressed and unaddressed parts of myself to create a narrative that works through the confusion of identity.

The Dentist is the perceived successful model minority that benefits by positioning himself with whiteness while his twin brother is invisible to the world because of his rejection to appease societal stereotypes. The Lawyer intertwines himself into their life, acting as the omniscient presence of white supremacy. Using my American urge to categorize, I dissect their relationships to indirectly confront bi-culturalism and isolation created from post-capitalist environments such as suburbia.
